Tempe Dance Wests' Dance Classes
Our faculty is highly qualified in their own areas of expertise, but they all understand the impact they have on their students' ethical, moral, emotional and mental development. We stress quality of instruction and strive to meet and exceed the needs of all our students through professional excellence and dedication to teaching.
All students, regardless of age, learn the proper names and techniques of each dance step. Age groups and technique levels are separated, as each level learns at a different rate. Tempe Dance West classes are designed for those just starting their dance training, as well as more experienced dancers seeking to improve their ability and technique. We have innovative classes for young children all the way up to classes devised to help dancers of any age with specific dance skills. Our teachers are dedicated to helping each child progress and reach their potential.
Ballet provides the technical basis for all dance forms. We offer graded levels of ballet based on the dancers age, physical development and training. The younger classes emphasize basic ballet skills as well as:
- Stretch and strengthening
- Body awareness and posture placement
- Eurythmics and coordination
- Ballet terminology
These skills are built, developed and added to through the levels of training until an entire vocabulary of the ballet syllabus is assimilated. Ballet is the most demanding and most disciplined of all the dance forms.
Jazz dance class focuses on proper body alignment, coordination and retention of movement, and trains students to be rhythmically articulate. In any given jazz class there are three objectives which are the focus of the class:
- Strength and flexibility
- Locomotor movement combinations
- Specialized or technical combinations
- Strength and flexibility exercises included in the jazz class warm-up
Combination class incorporates ballet, tap and tumbling. This class lets dancers discover musical skills, develop coordination and learn how to interact with other children through dance movement. This is the perfect class to get them excited about dance.
Tumbling / Acrobatics – For the adventurous one, Tumbling and Acrobatics classes encourage athletic movement in participants. The class focuses on strength and focus through tumbling and gymnastic skills on mats.
Hip-Hop – Our Hip-Hop class is fusion of the latest steps from television to the streets. Dancers learn how to infuse a little attitude into their routines, but focus on disciplined choreography and technique as well.
Tap – In this class, rhythm rules. Tap develops rhythm and coordination. Dancers also focus on correct posture and proper body alignment.
Zumba – Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music that creates a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and International beats to get your heart pumping. There's no other fitness class like a Zumba Fitness Party. It's easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.
